Seven class one rail carriers contribute detailed intermodal movements between geographic regions, movements by equipment size, and key corridor activity. Data provided by participating Intermodal Marketing Companies includes intermodal loads, highway truckloads, total loads, intermodal revenue, and highway revenue. The report also contains information on current trucking indicators and a short-term trucking outlook. Each quarterly report offers a set of standard charts and graphs that provide valuable, recurring snapshots of the intermodal industry. The report also summarizes service and capacity improvements as well as an analysis of the U.S., Canadian and Mexican economies and their impact on the intermodal industry.

Movements are segmented by equipment size, equipment type and ownership defined as private or rail-controlled. Up to 17 years of data is available for the years 2000 through 2016.
