The In Brief section contains such news items as new products and services, new/expanded/relocated facilities, new business ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate awards and honors. The People in the News section focuses on new hires and promotions, as well as personal awards and honors. Intermodal Insights also accepts letters to the editor.

Membership in the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) is open to companies involved in the intermodal freight transportation industry and those who do business with those companies.

IANA membership is available in five voting divisions, and two non-voting categories. Voting membership is corporate. The voting membership divisions are: 3PL, Marine, Motor Carrier, Rail and Supplier. The non-voting membership categories are At-Large and Associate.

Click here to view the membership divisions. You may also view the listings of member companies within each division to help determine which division is most applicable. If you are still unsure, contact Jim Morrow, assistant vice president, membership, at or 301-982-3400, ext. 314.

Each member company is limited to one membership division. Select the most appropriate division for the services your company performs in the intermodal sector. Companies that have subsidiaries, divisions or associated companies with separate business identities may qualify for separate membership(s) in another IANA division.

Your company will most likely qualify in our Supplier Division. Members of this division provide a wide range of products and services, including equipment and component manufacturing, consulting, insurance, software and security products. Please see the Supplier Division members list to review the companies currently in this division.

IANA’s voting membership is comprised of corporate members. Each member company assigns one "voting" or primary member contact to represent their company. An individual currently employed by a member company can become an At-Large member. At-Large members receive the same benefits, excluding voting privileges.

Associate membership is limited to government, military, shippers/receivers (beneficial cargo owners), academia and the media. Associates are non-voting members. If you are unsure if you qualify, contact Jim Morrow, assistant vice president, membership, at or 301-982-3400, ext. 314.

At-Large membership is open only to individuals who are employees of IANA member companies in good standing. At-Large memberships are accepted on an individual basis and are transferable between individuals within the same member organization. At-Large membership is not transferable between different member companies.

Not at this time. If your company provides an intermodal product or service your membership eligibility generally falls within one of the IANA divisions, which are: 3PL, Marine, Motor Carrier, Rail and Supplier. Non-voting memberships are allowed only as described above.

Any individual who is employed by a member company is entitled to receive the member rate for products, services and registration for IANA events. They also are are eligible to join as At-Large members as well as to serve on IANA committees and task forces.

No. A UIIA participant must join IANA and pay membership dues to become an IANA member. A discount on the UIIA annual participation fee is applicable to participants that are also IANA members.

IANA annual membershipdues are based upon the greater amount of annual intermodal revenue or expense. View the schedule of dues as shown on the IANA Membership Application here.

Membership dues are based upon a twelve-month cycle, with the membership anniversary date being the first day of the month joined. Annual membership begins when the first year’s dues are paid. Membership renewal dues are invoiced annually prior to the anniversary date.
