DHS Realigns Final TWIC Compliance Date

The Department of Homeland Security anounced May 2 that the final compliance date for the Transporation Worker Identification Credential, or TWIC, has been changed to April 15, 2009. This is a realignment from the September 25, 2008 date that had been set forth in the TWIC final rule.

TWIC Guidelines for Rail Worker Access

On September 30, the U.S. Coast Guard released a policy guideline regarding TWIC requirements for railroad workers who, through the normal execution of their duties, require unescorted access to secure areas of Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) regulated facilities. In addition, it details the policy that should be followed by facility owners/operators to address rail line access points.

Enrollment is underway for the TWIC program at all of the top 25 U.S. ports. Please note that hours are are subject to change.
