Rail Intermodal Traffic Activity—2007

Total Rail Intermodal Traffic Moves

For the year, rail intermodal traffic moves totaled 14,078,952, a 1.1% decrease from 2006 total volumes.

Total Container Traffic

Container traffic in total represented approximately 84.8% of all rail intermodal moves, a 1.1% increase 2006 levels.

Domestic Containers

Domestic container traffic moves totaled 3,598,006 and represented approximately 25.5% of the total moves. Domestic container traffic increased 9.3% from 2006.

International Containers

ISO container (20-ft, 40-ft, and 45-ft boxes) traffic moves totaled 8,335,480 and represented roughly 59.2% of the total moves. International container traffic decreased 2% from 2006.

Trailers

Trailer traffic moves totaled 2,145,466 and represented 15.2% of the total moves. Trailer traffic decreased 11.8% from 2006.
