Total Rail Intermodal Traffic Moves

For the year, rail intermodal traffic moves totaled 13,659,495, a 3% decrease from 2007 total volumes.

Total Container Traffic

Container traffic in total represented approximately 84.9% of all rail intermodal moves, a 0.1% increase 2007 levels.

Domestic Containers

Domestic container traffic moves totaled 3,849,327 and represented approximately 28.2% of the total moves. Domestic container traffic increased 7% from 2007.

International Containers

ISO container (20-ft, 40-ft, and 45-ft boxes) traffic moves totaled 7,749,769 and represented roughly 56.7% of the total moves. International container traffic decreased 7% from 2007.

Trailers

Trailer traffic moves totaled 2,060,399 and represented 15.1% of the total moves. Trailer traffic decreased 4% from 2007.
