The Driver Vehicle Inspection Report, or DVIR, submission process is fast and easy and offers a simple way to identify damages at the in-gate so the equipment can be inspected and repaired. It also is a regulatory requirement. Unfortunately, in practice, very few of actual damages are reported by drivers on DVIRs.
The FMCSA joins IANA’s Intermodal Chassis Driver Vehicle Inspection Reporting Standards Task Force to discuss the role that DVIRs play in improving road-ready intermodal equipment, the consequences of not completing them, examine common misconceptions, and review results of the driver study, video and informational card the task force has developed to improve driver awareness.
